Hercules.

I designed and created this loosely retro-styled, biped robot. I didn’t want it to look over-engineered, generically futuristic or self-consciously cool, but to appear tangible, grounded and believable and robustly constructed in a way that might actually function. I had old die cast toys and mid 20th century industrial, factory machinery in mind when I put it together and was careful to consider the layering of materials and the interfacing between them. I also tried to give it personality through design with shapes and forms that imbue it with character.

50's style ad copy/voice over:

"Allow us to introduce 'Hercules', the perfect domestic companion for taking on any mundane, difficult or unpleasant chore. He is strong, versatile and reliable and can travel at high speed on his leg mounted wheels...Just watch him go!

When it feels like your work is never done, Hercules is up to the task!"

Made using 3DS Max, Substance Designer and Zbrush.
